The fenland market town of Holbeach lies in the South Holland district of Lincolnshire. It is situated some 13 kilometres from Spalding and 27 kilometres from Boston. It is one of the few places in the country which the Prime Meridian passes through. Back in the mid-1800s it held its own races, although the venture was not particularly successful and was not repeated after one year. The final meeting took place on Monday 16th August 1847.
